Summer Volunteer Opportunities

At Ontario Pioneer Camp, our volunteer summer staff team is divided into two main categories: program staff and support staff. Our program staff are those staff who work directly with the campers. Roles in this category include chalet leaders, waterfront staff, activity leaders, and all others who care directly for the campers who attend Pioneer's many programs.  In exchange for service, summer volunteers are provided room and board along with a $40 per week honorarium.

Our support staff are those staff who do not work directly with the campers and instead focus on supporting the program staff. Roles included in this category include babysitters, nurses, doctors, food service staff, maintenance workers, office staff and drivers. Special Discounts for Support Staff
First Time Volunteers     - Kitchen  $200 discount per camper for the first week of volunteering.  Volunteer additional weeks and receive 50% off your campers additional weeks.
                                             -Other roles $150 discount per camper for the first week of volunteering.  Volunteer additional weeks and receive 50% off your campers additional weeks.  

Returning Volunteers  -Will receive a $250 discount per camper for the first week of volunteering.  Volunteer additional weeks and receive 50% off your campers additional weeks. 

Nurses  - Will receive a 100% discount on their camper fees for the week they are serving.

Because we want to make sure our campers have the safest and most enjoyable experience possible, our hiring process is very thorough. If you are interested in applying for a summer volunteer position this summer, the necessary steps are listed below. We encourage staff to apply as early as possible. Camp could not run without our many volunteers!

Summer Volunteer Application Process:

The staff applications are web-based. You must use an Internet Explorer or Firefox.


1) If you are returning staff - Click on the Staff Registration link and select Click Here if you already have a username. You must update each page of your application from last year including all reference details. Please help us by making sure you fill in information you might have missed last year. Your application hasn't been completed until you have pressed the Submit button on the last page and received a message of Success!

2 ) If you are new staff or LIT's from last year -Click on the Staff Registration link and select Click here to create username. Please write down the username and password you select! Please fill out each page as completely as possible. Support staff will notice that they do not have to fill out some pages. Your application hasn't been completed until you have pressed the Submit button on the last page and received a message of Success!

3) You will be contacted by the appropriate department manager/camp director regarding the status of your application.

4) Based on your application and references you may be contacted for an interview (in person or by telephone).

5) Police checks (Vulnerable Sector Screening) will be required for those 19 and over.  For those 18 and under a standard criminal record check is suffiicient.  Police checks done for Pioneer are good for three summer seasons.
