Out-tripping has been an important part of Ontario Pioneer Camp’s programming since its inception in 1929. Trips provide unique opportunities for skill development, community building and challenge. Away from the noises and distractions of the city, out-tripping is a great opportunity for young people to safely step outside their comfort zones, while also experiencing the beauty of creation. Today our well-trained Tripping Staff lead campers on a variety of trips that vary in terms of length and degree of difficulty. Along with several Canoe Trip options, we also offer a 2-day Mountain Bike Trip (minimum age is 13) at Boys’ Camp. Our Canoe Trips are age-specific, and range from a 2-day trip for 11-year olds, to a 5-day trip for 14 and 15 year olds. In between, we offer at 3-day trip (for 12-year olds), a 4-day trip (for 13-year olds). At girls' camp there is a 4 day and 5 day extended session trip offered for sessions 2 and 4. The girls will stay at Pioneer after the two-week session for their trips. We send trips to a variety of regions, including Algonquin Park and the French River. Trip routes are contingent upon several factors, including water levels and campsite availability. Each trip is made up of 4-7 campers and at least 2 leaders. One of these leaders is the lead Tripper. Our lead Trippers are highly qualified and are responsible for the trip planning, navigating, safety and cooking. In addition to our overnight trips, Boys’ Camp and Girls’ Camp also offer several day-trips for campers who have reached advanced levels in kayaking, windsurfing, and mountain biking. |
