Mark Evans “Rance” has reached the 10 year milestone as Director of Boys’ Camp. Before becoming the Boys’ Camp Director, Mark spent 4 years as a Junior High Youth Pastor for a church just outside Ottawa. A graduate of the University of Ottawa, he has also earned his Masters in Divinity from Tyndale College and Seminary. He presently is Youth Pastor at Forestview Church.
Mark has a long affiliation with Ontario Pioneer Camp, going back to 1981, when he was first a camper at Junior (Adventure) Camp. Since then he has spent time each summer “on the shores of Lake Clearwater.” After ten summers as a camper, he completed the LIT program in 1991. He then spent four summers as a Chalet Leader at Boys’ Camp, followed by six as a Section Head before becoming the Boys’ Camp Director in 2001.
In January 2005, Mark married Catherine (Dupuis), whom he met at OPC while she was a Section Head at Girls’ Camp. When they are not at Camp, they make their home in Burlington, Ontario. Mark and Catherine have two children, Hannah and Sophia.
Mark enjoys sports, reading, cooking and movies, and is an avid fan of the Ottawa Senators and Toronto Blue Jays. He is passionate about camping and the unparalleled context it provides for the social, physical, emotional and spiritual growth of young people.
